The doors of INTERMOT opened to
the public and also a new era for BMW Motorrad. A new series of
motorcycle was launched. The G Series.
-
This new series of single-cylinder
machines takes BMW Motorrad into a new market area that will bring a
new group of riders to the brand. A group who are after a
lightweight motorcycle that is capable of dynamic performance, both
on and off road in a distinctive BMW package.
-
The new range consists of three
models built upon the same platform. They all share the same frame
with the 9.5 L tank situated under the seat and an updated 650 cc
motor that has proved itself in the F 650 GS. It is
lighter, even more fuel-efficient and puts out 53 hp/39 kW, an
increase of 3 hp/2 kW.
-
The G 650 Xchallenge,
G 650 Xcountry and G 650 Xmoto are motorcycles
with their own distinct personalities, targeted at different riders.
-
The Xchallenge is the hard-edged
dirt machine and at 156 kg is the lightest of the trio and will
have a dynamic performance that will satisfy serious Enduro riders.
The Xcountry is styled to hark back to the era of the classic
Scrambler. It is capable on the dirt and the suspension set-up lends
itself to carving up country roads. The Xmoto is the modern
supermoto. Sticky road tyres mounted on 17-inch wheels, with
stunning Graphitane matt metallic paintwork.
-
The brakes are different on each
model but switchable ABS will be an option as it is on all BMW
models. There is also a long list of accessories that can be added
for comfort and convenience.
-
This new range has set the
motorcycle world talking, as BMW Motorrad continue to expand the
range into new areas, attracting new riders as well as tempting
existing BMW enthusiasts.
-
The K Series is expanded with the
launch of the K 1200 R Sport. It is the fourth new
four-cylinder model and will compliment the S, R and GT. It is a bit
of an each way bet, offering greater protection than the K 1200 R
but without the visual bulk of the K 1200 S. The solid
mounted fairing and the higher mounted ‘bars will attract riders
who like naked bikes but with the added comfort.
-
Rounding out the new models was the
HP2 Megamoto. This, like the original HP2, will be a limited
release machine and will be produced strictly to order. It has the
same motor and frame but is fitted with 45 mm upside-down Marzocchi
front forks and a high performance Ohlins strut at the rear. The
17-inch alloy wheels are shod with sports rubber for maximum grip
and fun. The headlight is surrounded with a distinctive aggressive
cowl in which sits a road orientated set of instruments. Maximum
performance and fun.
-
Five new bikes further adding to the
ever expanding range of BMW motorcycles. The full story is in the
upcoming October edition of BeeEm.
-
One of the many reasons why you
should join the club.
- (apologies to Damien for suggesting that I was waiting on him for the text of the article. It was ready days ago, it just got caught up in the works)
