It is only a week until the return of BMW Motorrad to World Championship
competition. The first official BMW team since 1956, when Walter Zeller
was runner up in the 500 cc World Championship.
We now have our first look at the S 1000 RR in race livery and some
of the details on this the most powerful BMW motorcycle ever produced.
The
162 kg (dry) S 1000 RR is powered by a 999 cc four-cylinder wet sump
motor (80 x 49.7) with 14:1 compression, fed by a 48 mm Dell’ Orto
injection system that will produce 200 hp at 14,000 rpm. In race trim
with the 23lt tank topped up the S 1000 RR will be well under 200 kg.
