In the big surprise of INTERMOT the covers were also removed from the S 1000 RR. We had seen the bike being tested on track; we now have our first look in racing trim. In BMW Team Motorsport colours the bike that will be ridden by Spaniard Ruben Xaus and our own Troy Corser in next year’s WSBK championship, looks stunning.

The engine is completely new and from the very limited information given, it has a compact cylinder head and the valves are operated by very small, compact and light cam followers similar to those found in F1. This construction will ensure high engine speed as well usable torque. In the customer model as well as dynamic traction control a new Sports ABS will feature on this fantastic looking machine.

The 205 kg (wet) S 1000 RR will be available to the first European customers around May just after the bike has made its track debut. Australian delivery will be announced at a later date.

This is just the beginning of an exciting new era for BMW Motorrad and there will be more information on the S 1000 RR as we move toward the 2009 WSBK season.
