BMW Motorrad boss Hendrik von Kuenheim has taken the covers off the
new Supersports S 1000 RR. This is the bike that will take BMW Motorrad
into a new era of high performance road bikes and importantly into
Superbike racing in the WSBK and in national classes around the world.
There
were no technical details as to power or weight but von Kuenheim did
say that it would be in line with other in the class and that it would
have traction control and feature a host of innovations that will set
the bike apart and add to its road going and track ability.
This
is only a racing prototype to give an impression of the total package
and there will be further changes made and of course an improvement in
quality before it is released. It is a stunning design and there will
probably be only minor changes made before it is seen on the track and
showrooms.
This release will free up the team as they gather more
track time to get the bike ready for next season. No more, ‘No comment’
as they get down to work in getting the S 1000 RR dialled in. The aim
is to finish in the top ten in 2009 and a place on the podium in
2010.
This is exciting!
